Newport

The NSW Government is delivering improved public transport between the Northern Beaches and the Sydney CBD. This includes service and infrastructure upgrades to support the new B-Line bus service. The B-Line provides a more frequent, reliable, turn-up-and-go bus service for customers travelling between Mona Vale and the Sydney CBD, with services proposed to be extended to Newport in 2018.

Investigation work during March

Roads and Maritime Services will conduct service and geotechnical investigation work along Barrenjoey Road, between Coles Parade and Burke Road and in the beach car park. This will help us to understand the sand, earth and rock beneath the asphalt in the area, as well as where existing water, sewer and electricity sites are located.

The information gathered will assist in the development of the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) for the proposed roundabout at the intersection of Barrenjoey Road and Neptune Road. The REF is expected to be placed on public display for comment in the coming months.

For more information on this work, please see the Newport night work notification for February.

Proposed roundabout

The proposed roundabout at the intersection of Neptune and Barrenjoey Roads would ensure B-Line buses can pick up and drop off close to the town centre, at the existing stops, turn around safely and continue service toward the city. The roundabout would also improve turning traffic conditions from Neptune Road and help reduce traffic speed near the beach.

See below map for details:

We understand how important consultation and planning is for the proposed extension of services to the Newport community. Information on the proposed roundabout, including design, construction and operation will be made available in the REF which will be put on public display for community feedback in the coming months.
